Report on Old Joe Team Race

Held at South Staffordshire Sailing Club over the weekend of 13/14th June 2015, the Brimingham University organised Old Joe Team Race proved to be a great weekend enjoyed by all.

The weekend started on Friday night with registration and BBQ before the slightly more adventurous went out and hit the nightclub.

Saturday morning saw light winds and quite a bit of rain, but this did not stop us getting in 26 races! We finished a bit early due to the lack of wind, with Edinburgh taking the lead.

Sunday kicked off with some heavy heads, even from some of the oldies, but these were soon sorted by the sunny rays. The full round-robin of all the teams was completed by two thirty, before teams were split into Bronze, Silver and Gold. The umpires kindly sorted out the course due to the 90 degree wind shift, which meant that the silver and gold flight could complete their races.

With boats in and results calculated, prize giving happened. The winning team was BOB 88 ZF (in which SSSC's Keith Macaulay and Kamila Czartolomna were sailing), a University of Birmingham alumni team, in second was the well-travelled team of Edinburgh and Parkstone/Southampton team in third.

Birmingham University Sailing Club would very much like to thank all the teams that took part as well as the umpires and RYA Midlands for sponsoring us, and a big thank you to South Staff’s Sailing club for being so accommodating!
