End of Sunday Morning Junior Training for 2009

It was a very wet and windy final Junior Training session run by Mike and Steve, who succeeded in convincing several brave juniors in Toppers and GP's to venture out and return very wet indeed!

Several juniors also opted to try their luck in the fast increasing winds and started the junior race at 11-00am. It has to be said that as far as I know, every boat capsized in this race (including all the adult boats) EXCEPT!!!! One little lonely Optimist, sailed by Will Hawkins. Well done Will indeed, as he kept his nerve and just got on with it - and to see his great big smile as he safety returned to the jetty.

After 18 training sessions on Sunday mornings from April to November - another fantastic junior programme is complete for 2009.
Many of the juniors have progressed into the racing fraternity and are showing lots of promise while we have had around 25 brand new sailors starting this year.
Many thanks to all the instructors, sailors and safety boat drivers that have helped us to carry out the junior training programme this year. The final thank you must be to the support we have had from all the parents. Without their land/water based help we would really struggle.

A special thanks to Rachel White who has relinquished the post of Junior Training Administrator after (several) years of getting to the Club on a Sunday morning with Amanda Whitehouse assisting with the co-ordination of all the kids ( and Adults !). Rachel has set up the spread sheet and recording personal data that has to be done these days.
Thank you Rachel, your role was very much appreciated by Mike and myself, because it left us to do what we like doing best - teaching kids!

Stepping into her shoes will be Darren and Helen Owen who have both agreed to take over the role next year. Welcome aboard both of you.

Just because junior training has stopped doesn't mean you can stop in bed on Sunday mornings! If the weather is kind you must continue to sail as much as you can. Mike or I will be down many Sundays to give a helping hand if required.
HOWEVER, remember that the water is now getting cold and correct clothing should be worn. It is MANDATORY to wear wet/dry suites from January to March.

Happy sailing
Mike & Steve
