South Staffs' Sarah Norbury Sailing in World Cup

South Staffs SC sailor Sarah Norbury will be sailing against Olympians this week at the ISAF World Cup in Weymouth.

The regatta is a final chance for the Olympic fleets from across the world to line up against each other before they fly out to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympic Games and will see Sarah sailing against 2012 silver medallists Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark in the 470 fleet.

Speaking about the event Sarah said, "This is such a great opportunity for me especially as it's my first year in the 470. I'm really excited at being offered a place in this regatta and the thought of competing against Olympic sailors from all over the world is a real honour."

Competing in the event are all the GBR sailing team going to Rio including Alison Young (Laser Radial), Giles Scott (Finn) and team Luke Patience/Chris Grube (470 men).

Unfortunately for Sarah, her regular crew broke her foot just days before the competition started so Sarah is practicing hard with her replacement, Tilly Matthews. The pair have sailed together once before in the past so are working hard for the next couple of days to give themselves the best chance of a reasonable showing in the competition.

"The trouble is with a fleet of this quality," continued Sarah, "is that if you make just one small mistake, everyone sails past you. If we can keep up with the others, I'll be pleased, whatever our results!"
The World Cup is a series of events which are held in various countries. Entry is by invitation only. This Sailing World Cup, hosted by Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, will welcome 380 Olympic sailors from 44 nations. Racing starts on Wednesday 8th June and will conclude on Sunday 12th June with the Medal Races.

Live tracking will be available when racing starts
