Saturday Sailing - Debate ?

......to Practise sailing skills?

Those of us that sail regularly know that the only way to improve sailing skills is to practise regularly.

The best way is of course to start when you are very young! So for this reason the club is thinking of signing up to the RYA "OnBoard" initiative.
This will introduce school children to a taster day and for the enthusiasts, a further 10 sessions. Of course with children come parents, as we can see with our own members on Sunday mornings!

We know a number of parents have signed up to the Level 1 & 2 Learn to Sail Course but how do we encourage them to practise? We also want to extend the Junior Introduction to Sailing on Sunday Mornings to improve their skills.

So the plan for the Autumn is to open the club for sailing on Saturdays.

This would be an opportunity for adults to practise, for juniors to develop their sailing skills and for the racing juniors to get follow on coaching from the summer Thursday evening sessions.

HOWEVER, we need VOLUNTEERS to enable this to happen!

Preferably Safety Boat drivers with sailing skills and experienced sailors to give support to adults and Juniors on both a formal and informal basis. So that there is no misunderstanding, this would have to be additional to normal club duties.

This is partly where the RYA OnBoard scheme comes in! There may be some funding to train Power Boat drivers; Sailing Instructors and Senior Instructors for those with the interest and enthusiasm to help with any or all of these initiatives.

Whatever your interest we would like to hear from you. There will be an explanatory meeting on Tuesday evening 28th September at 8.00pm, to hear more of the OnBoard scheme and our plans for Saturday sailing.

It cannot happen without your help so please come along to hear more.
