1994 to 2004
1994 - SSSC's 40th Anniversary by Tony Hotchkiss
Without doubt the highlight of our membership has been the year I was Commodore. 1994/5 was a very good year, with only one or two blips to prevent total enjoyment. The highlight of the year was the 40th anniversary celebrations. With fantastic support from much of the membership it was Gill Beddow who really pulled the whole thing together. Her army of helpers created a fantastic party held in a marquee in front of the clubhouse. Inevitably it was not the best weather and the heating provided by Rod Seivewright was very welcome. There was then a race in which several of the older members took part, which really helped to create the atmosphere that made it a fantastic day. There were various bits of memorabilia produced for the event with the only real mistake being the infamous "Tea Spoons".
By coincidence South Staffs 40th was on the same year as Midlands Centenary. It was an added bonus to me to be able to represent South Staffs at their celebrations and the Centenary race they held on the Sunday was full of nostalgia and even a little success!
