Gailey Lower Pool 1974 - 1984

The Silver Jubilee - 1979

After 25 years of progress, great sailing and expansion, the South Staffordshire Sailing Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
The commodore in 1979 was Phil Warrilow, vice commodore was John Newbery, secretary Pam Waine and treasurer Norman Howell. The committee organized celebrations to be held at Gailey lower pool and there was a special jubilee race with an entry of 38 boats, with members old and new taking part in the competition.

Class winners of the jubilee race were:
GP 14 Neil Thompson crewed by Philip Dunn
Firefly Gordon Townend crewed by Sally Townend
OK Bill Bradburn
Lark Mike Moscardi crewed by Anne Waine

Amongst the guests were six of the original founder members: the enthusiasts who had helped to form the club in 1954 by contributing 10 shillings to a foundation fund.

As a thank you gesture, each was presented with one of the old 10s notes in a presentation wallet. On the receiving end in this unusual and unexpected ceremony were Stanley Berriman, Donald Etchells, Leslie Heaton, John Lancaster, Captain W.J.Page and Peter Waine.

Peter Waine, founder member, former commodore and instructor, was made an honorary life member of the club in recognition of his services.
